Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and volunteering for the community. The first family is his youngest of nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. They grew up on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. In second football, he was the third brother who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland and Lombardi Awards. In the three years that Roy played as a player, Oklahoma won two National Championships. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy's fourth volunteer service included ten hours per week of volunteer time in the college. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and played nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro for three occasions. Then he started his career. In 1988, he was an Account Relation Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also a part of the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young men. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing the hefty 256 pounds at college when he was a player, captained his team throughout 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. In 1988, Selmon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He also made his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon, the governor of Oklahoma presented it.
